Richard S. Miles, Jr. retired from the U.S. Navy in 1954. At just 23-years-of-age he had an expertise in sheet metal and was eager to use his skills to build a business that he could all his own. After observing a shortage of steel alloy services in the budding oil field industry in Southern California, he went into business with his father, Richard S. Miles, Sr. – a man who’s steel experience went back decades, to form a new kind of steel business with expert, specialized services. It took a lot of guts, but the hands-on education that both men brought to their business allowed them to create a successful company that has become one of the leading steel distributors and metal processors in the nation.
Now in its fourth generation of family management, Diane Miles Fouty, Richard Jr.’s daughter, runs the day-to-day operations for the company and manages all inside sales. Richard S. Miles, III, Richard Jr.’s son is the Blanchard Grinding Foreman and Charles Fouty, Richard Jr.’s Grandson is the company’s Steel Foreman.
